Colencia Davidson Obituary, Death; – In northeast Harris County, Mother’s Day balloons and other memorial items now commemorate the location where 39-year-old Colencia Davidson was tragically shot and killed last Sunday night.
‘She would have turned 40 next week,’ remarked her cousin, Sandra Davidson. Colencia, a mother of ten and a corrections sergeant with TDCJ, had just returned home from an evening out with friends when a man, captured on surveillance footage, shot her twelve times before fleeing the scene with a firearm in hand.
Authorities quickly identified the suspect as 44-year-old Thomas Sonnier, the estranged father of all but one of Davidson’s children. ‘It was a shock,’ Davidson expressed. ‘I never anticipated receiving such a call.’ Speaking on behalf of the family, Davidson, who regarded Colencia as a sister, shared, ‘She adored her children.
They were her utmost priority. Everything she did revolved around them. She was a kind-hearted person who laughed and got along with everyone.’ This was true, except for Sonnier, with whom she had a tumultuous relationship for approximately twenty years, described by officials as ‘toxic’ during a recent court session. ‘I know I may never receive the answer I seek, but why?’ Davidson questioned. She noted that Colencia had recently received a promotion at work and was even making food deliveries on weekends to sever ties with Sonnier permanently.
‘All she wanted was to be happy and care for her children,’ Davidson stated. Now, Davidson’s children, the youngest of whom is merely a toddler, are left without their mother and effectively without their father. The family is currently seeking custody of her youngest children, who are residing with Sonnier’s family in Port Arthur. Attempts to contact them were unsuccessful. Thomas Sonnier is currently being held on a bond of $1,000,000.
A GoFundMe was set up to help the family. If you’d like to donate, here’s the link.
