Derrick Trujillo Obituary, Death; – On Monday, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the individual who lost his life in a crash on Sunday morning as Derrick Trujillo, a 23-year-old man. The incident, involving a single vehicle, occurred at 12:10 a.m. on Highway 180 near Temperance Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), officers observed a Dodge Challenger traveling eastbound on Highway 180 near Clovis Avenue at speeds approaching 130 mph. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Trujillo did not comply and instead accelerated, reaching speeds of up to 150 mph while exiting at Temperance.
Unfortunately, he was unable to successfully navigate the curve of the off-ramp, causing the Dodge to leave the roadway, become airborne, and overturn several times. Trujillo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the southbound lanes of Temperance Avenue, where he was pronounced dead. At this time, it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident, as toxicology results are still pending. The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
