John Dwayne Ross Obituary, Death; – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the individual who lost his life after being hit by a truck on the Chester Avenue bridge as 48-year-old John Dwayne Ross from Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield Police Department reported that on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, officers responded to a call regarding an incident involving a vehicle and two pedestrians in the 4200 block of Chester Avenue on the Chester bridge. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man, later identified as Ross, on the southbound sidewalk with critical injuries. He was declared dead at the scene. Another individual sustained minor injuries from debris.
Authorities indicated that their investigation revealed the men were walking southbound on the bridge when a pickup truck struck one of the pedestrians from behind and fled the scene. The suspected driver of the hit-and-run, 35-year-old Bobby Lemons, was located through the Flock Safety camera system and subsequently arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of felony hit and run resulting in death.
