Sue Deffenbaugh Arrested; – An 83-year-old woman has been apprehended in relation to a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Connecticut in November.
According to the West Hartford police, Sue Deffenbaugh, aged 83, faces charges of evading responsibility and failing to exercise reasonable care towards a vulnerable user on a public roadway. The incident took place on November 8, 2024.
On that day, law enforcement responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian at an intersection. Upon arrival, they discovered that a driver had struck a pedestrian who was crossing Oakwood Avenue at a designated crosswalk.
Following the initial impact, the pedestrian was subsequently struck by a second vehicle. Authorities noted that the driver of the first vehicle remained at the scene and assisted with the investigation, while the second vehicle fled the area. The pedestrian later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
After an extensive investigation lasting several months, police identified Deffenbaugh as the driver of the second vehicle. She was arrested on Tuesday. The arrest warrant included a bond set at $400,000 and a condition prohibiting her from driving. Deffenbaugh is set to appear in court on April 24.
