Domingo Pop Chun Obituary, Death; – Dallas police have reported that officers shot and killed a man who allegedly brandished a replica firearm while they were responding to a report of an armed individual attempting to break into an apartment on Saturday.
During a press conference held on Tuesday, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia stated that authorities received a call around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday regarding a person armed with a gun trying to gain entry into a second-floor apartment located in the 3100 block of Norwalk Avenue.
Witnesses indicated that they observed a man knocking on a door and attempting to open it. Subsequently, he climbed onto the second-floor balcony and tried to access a sliding glass door. Witnesses later reported that he returned to the front door and began banging on it while holding what appeared to be a handgun.
Garcia shared body camera footage showing officers patrolling the apartment complex and inquiring with residents about the presence of an armed man. After moving to the opposite side of the building, they identified a man on the second floor who matched the description provided by witnesses. The officers commanded the individual in English to “Show me your hands. Put your hands up,” and then repeated the word “manos,” which means “hands,” in Spanish.
According to Garcia, the man then reached for his waistband and produced what appeared to be a firearm, prompting the officers to discharge their weapons. The man subsequently collapsed on the walkway of the second floor.
Although the officers administered first aid, the individual, identified as 29-year-old Domingo Pop Chun, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police reported that no other injuries were associated with the incident.

Following the release of the body camera footage, Garcia noted that it was discovered post-incident that the weapon Chun was holding was a “replica firearm” that closely resembled a real gun.
“Without a doubt, it appeared authentic,” Garcia remarked. “It looked real to the officers involved.” He emphasized that the officers were unaware that it was a replica and believed it to be a genuine firearm. “You can hear in the video that this is not the outcome my officers desire. This situation is not something they can simulate,” Garcia stated. “It is undoubtedly challenging for them, regardless of whether they had attended services that morning. It was certainly a difficult day.”
