Gage Gilbert,Michael Johnson Obituary, Death; – A 911 hang-up call in Oak Grove early Sunday morning reportedly resulted in the discovery of a deceased individual and attempts to negotiate with an armed person who subsequently died.
As per the Oak Grove Police Department, dispatchers received a 911 call around 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 13, but the caller did not provide any details, prompting law enforcement to trace the phone’s location.
Upon locating the call to a residence on Arkansas Avenue, police responded to the address to check on the residents. Upon arrival, officers reportedly heard a gunshot and discovered a deceased individual just inside the home.
Authorities indicated that a second person, who was armed and had sustained gunshot wounds, was barricaded in a back room. Law enforcement attempted to negotiate with this individual, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
“When additional units from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and Hopkinsville Police arrived, Oak Grove officers entered the residence and conducted a search, ultimately finding the shooter deceased from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Oak Grove officials stated on social media.
In a Facebook post at 10:44 a.m., police mentioned that they were withholding the names of those involved until next of kin could be notified. However, WKDZ Radio reported that authorities identified the man found shot upon their arrival as 27-year-old Gage Gilbert, and the individual discovered after entering the home as 35-year-old Michael Johnson.
According to WKDZ Radio, law enforcement is still investigating the shooting but currently believes it to be a murder-suicide. No further details regarding the incident from Sunday morning have been disclosed.
