Eric Escobar Obituary, Death; – A man has died following a shooting involving a deputy from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office shortly after midnight, as reported by LCSO.
At approximately 12:15 a.m., LCSO responded to a call regarding a suspicious individual yelling at vehicles on Via Roma Circle in Clermont. A subsequent call indicated that the same man was banging on a resident’s door, according to LCSO Sgt. Jim Vachon in an email.
Upon their arrival, deputies instructed the man, later identified as 39-year-old Eric Escobar, to show his hands; however, Escobar did not comply.
“While attempting to engage with the individual, he brandished a handgun, which compelled one of our deputies to discharge his service weapon,” Vachon stated. Escobar was declared dead at the scene. Fortunately, no deputies or residents sustained injuries during the incident.
The deputy involved, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been placed on administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducts a review, which is standard protocol in cases of deputy-involved shootings.
