Renée Descary Obituary, Death; – Ottawa police have confirmed the identity of the individual who was fatally injured on Tuesday afternoon in Lowertown as 51-year-old Renée Descary. Authorities have stated that her death was a result of her being a woman.
The suspect in custody has been identified as 24-year-old Oliver Denia from Ottawa. He faces charges of second-degree murder and is set to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were dispatched to a residence on Heney Street in central Ottawa at approximately 4:40 p.m. following reports of an assault involving a sharp weapon, as reported by paramedics to CBC News.
A spokesperson for Ottawa paramedics confirmed that an adult was found deceased at the scene, while another individual was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Police announced Descary’s identity on Wednesday morning and classified her death as a femicide, which refers to the killing of women and girls due to their gender. Authorities have indicated that there is no threat to public safety.
Daniel Lavigueur, a resident of the co-op, remarked that the victim was well-known among the community members. Having lived in the area since 2008, he noted that many neighbors are feeling a sense of distress. “In my years living here, this is the first time we’ve experienced such a significant crime, especially involving someone so close. People are somewhat in denial but also very anxious,” he stated.
