Oscar Lopez Obituary, Death; – An arrest has been made following the tragic death of a 22-year-old skateboarder who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Koreatown last week.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Fedir Iatsenko, is believed to have been driving a gray four-door sedan that collided with Oscar Lopez around 6 a.m. on Thursday.
The impact of the crash, which occurred at the intersection of 6th and Catalina streets, was severe enough to scatter car parts across the area. Reports indicate that Iatsenko did not stop to render assistance or disclose his identity after the incident.
Video footage from the scene revealed that the collision not only destroyed Lopez’s skateboard but also dislodged at least one of his shoes. Iatsenko is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, while the Lopez family, including Oscar’s mother, is seeking justice in the wake of their loss.
“It’s difficult for me to confront the individual who took my son’s life,” she expressed. “After what he did, he left my son without any assistance. Every person possesses a degree of humanity, yet he chose to do nothing. He abandoned my son right there in the street.”
