Max Dominguez Obituary, Death; – San Antonio police have named the officer involved in the shooting that resulted in the death of a man on Sunday afternoon in the West Side area.
The incident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in the 6500 block of Tahoka Boulevard, close to Historic Old Highway 90. On Monday, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased as 27-year-old Max Dominguez, a fact verified by the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD).
In a news release issued on Wednesday afternoon, SAPD identified Officer Matthew Roach as the individual who fatally shot Dominguez. The medical examiner’s office informed KSAT on Wednesday that Dominguez sustained gunshot wounds to both the head and chest.
The medical examiner’s office classified Dominguez’s death as a homicide on Wednesday. According to police reports, officers were initially dispatched to the residence in response to a call regarding an ongoing assault, during which Dominguez was allegedly attacking his girlfriend.
Upon arrival, officers approached the front door of the residence. Dominguez partially opened the door but did not fully comply. SAPD reported that Roach pushed the door, causing Dominguez to fall onto a bed. It was at this point that Dominguez allegedly reached for a machete located beside the mattress, prompting Roach to discharge his weapon multiple times.
Roach, who has been with the department for one year, has been reassigned to administrative duties. A KSAT analysis revealed that the shooting on Tahoka Boulevard marks the seventh incident involving SAPD officers in 2025, with five of these incidents resulting in fatalities.
SAPD has stated that both the shooting team and internal affairs units are conducting independent investigations. The outcomes of these investigations will be submitted to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for further examination.
