Kaylee Lanay Merchant Obituary, Death; – The Cleburne Police Department is actively pursuing the individual responsible for the tragic shooting of an 18-year-old woman that occurred on Sunday.
At approximately 1:00 p.m., authorities received a report of a shooting in the 500 block of Poindexter. While en route, they were informed that a woman had sustained gunshot wounds and had been transported to a different location. Upon arrival at the secondary site, officers discovered 18-year-old Kaylee Lanay Merchant, a resident of Cleburne, who had been shot.
According to police reports, Merchant was a passenger in a white SUV that was involved in a confrontation at the initial location on Poindexter. She was subsequently transported to a medical facility, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Giovanni Jimenez Diaz from Cleburne, fled the scene. A murder warrant has been issued for Diaz, and efforts to locate him are ongoing.
