Josiah Hooker Obituary, Death;- Felony charges have been brought against a man from Chicago in relation to a shooting that resulted in the death of one child and injuries to another on the South Side on Thursday afternoon.
As reported by Chicago police, 32-year-old Derrick Taylor, who lives in the Grand Crossing neighborhood where the incident took place, faces one count of endangerment or death to a child and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. These charges are linked to his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 1400 block of East 71st Street.
According to law enforcement, the shooting transpired inside a residence, resulting in the fatal injury of an 8-year-old boy and the wounding of a 5-year-old boy. The deceased child has been identified as 8-year-old Josiah Hooker.
There have been no updates regarding the condition of the injured child. While specific details about the incident remain vague, local residents reported seeing a postal worker administering CPR to the older child on the front porch of the home immediately after the shooting.
Taylor was apprehended shortly after the incident and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday for a detention hearing. Authorities have not released a booking photograph of Taylor.
