John Edward McCloud Obituary, – The Allen County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the individual whom the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) reported was shot and killed by officers during a residential burglary on Friday.

According to FWPD investigators, officers responded to a burglary in progress at approximately 2 a.m. at a residence on Wells Street, located near Baba’s Famous Steak and Lemonade. Upon their arrival, the officers encountered an adult male and discharged their firearms.

Despite the efforts of medics at the scene, the individual was pronounced deceased. On Monday, the coroner’s office identified the deceased as 58-year-old John Edward McCloud, a homeless resident of Fort Wayne.

The coroner determined that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, classifying the manner of death as homicide resulting from a police action shooting. This incident marks the 31st homicide recorded in Allen County this year.

FWPD reported that no officers sustained injuries during the burglary incident on Friday. The department has stated that the officers involved in the shooting of McCloud, whose names have not yet been released, have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with FWPD policy while an investigation is conducted.

A review of recent police-involved shootings reveals that, within less than ten months, four other individuals, in addition to McCloud, have been shot by officers of the Fort Wayne Police Department. In February, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office concluded that there was no evidence of criminal liability in the shooting of Warren-Hill. All other recent police-involved shootings are still under investigation.
