David Young Obituary, Death; – A 19-year-old woman has been apprehended following her alleged involvement in the fatal robbery of a tattoo artist at a residence on the near east side of Indianapolis in mid-October 2024.
Court documents filed earlier this month indicate that Zion Johnson, aged 19, has been formally charged with:
– One count of murder
– One count of attempted robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, classified as a Level 2 felony
– One count of conspiracy to commit robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, also a Level 2 felony
On October 19, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s east district responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of North Oxford Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a man, later identified as 38-year-old David Young, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Subsequent reports revealed that Young was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities indicated that the shooting appeared to have originated from a disturbance within the residence on North Oxford Street.
Witness interviews conducted at the scene suggested that Johnson was part of a group that allegedly robbed Young. It is reported that Johnson, along with an unidentified accomplice, arrived at the residence for a tattoo appointment and attempted to rob Young. During this incident, Young was shot, prompting the two individuals to flee the scene. A woman present in the home, later identified as Young’s girlfriend, reportedly fired at the pair as they escaped.
Throughout the investigation, law enforcement collected numerous handgun and rifle cartridge casings, as well as evidence of blood and bullet holes within the residence. Text messages and conversations retrieved by police revealed exchanges between Young and Johnson regarding the tattoo appointment. Authorities utilized phone records and social media to locate the suspects involved in this case.
In mid-January, police conducted an interview with Johnson, during which she allegedly stated that she fired a weapon.
