According to Tillery, 55-year-old Willie Floyd Perdue was shot around 12:55 a.m. on Warner Road, located in unincorporated Lamar County.

Tillery indicated that Perdue engaged in a confrontation with a man, later identified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations as 42-year-old Jacob Benjamin Craft, who subsequently shot him. In a press release, the GBI characterized the incident as “a brief confrontation,” which culminated in Perdue being shot multiple times in the street.
