Matthew W Huttle Obituary, Death; – A sheriff’s deputy in northwest Indiana fatally shot a 42-year-old man during a traffic stop on Sunday afternoon, according to the Indiana State Police.

The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. when a deputy from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on S.R. 14, east of C.R. 475 E., near the Pulaski County line. During the stop, the deputy attempted to apprehend the individual, who resisted arrest.

An altercation ensued, resulting in the deputy shooting the suspect, who was later identified by the Jasper County Coroner’s Office as Matthew W. Huttle, 42, from Hobart. The circumstances surrounding the traffic stop and whether any other individuals were injured remain unclear. Authorities confirmed that Huttle was in possession of a firearm, but the events leading to the shooting are still under investigation.

Jasper County Sheriff Patrick Williamson stated, “To ensure full transparency, I have requested the Indiana State Police to conduct an investigation into this officer-involved shooting. The involved officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in such cases.

We extend our condolences to the family of the deceased, as the loss of life is profoundly distressing for those who knew Mr. Huttle. I will disclose the officer’s name once I receive approval from the State Police Detectives.”
