Andrew Coombs Obituary, – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who lost his life in a three-vehicle accident on Gardiner Road on Monday. Andrew Coombs, a 33-year-old resident of Portland, was driving south when his vehicle veered into the northbound lane of Gardiner Road, as stated in a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
Coombs collided with two vehicles traveling north, both of which subsequently overturned. Megan Higgins, 43, from Augusta, along with two children aged 10 and 11, and Brad Reed, 41, from Auburn, who was operating the other vehicle, were all transported to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Portland for treatment of internal injuries.
All individuals involved in the incident were wearing seatbelts, and airbags were deployed in each vehicle. The accident resulted in the closure of Route 27, also known as Gardiner Road, until 6:30 p.m., nearly four hours after the incident occurred. Reports of Coombs’ driving were made to the sheriff’s office shortly before the crash, according to the news release.
Emergency responders from Dresden Fire and Rescue, Wiscasset Fire Department, ambulance services, and police departments, along with Gardiner Ambulance Service and Woolwich Fire/Rescue, attended to the scene. Investigations into the crash are being conducted by crash reconstructionists from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, and Brunswick Police Department.
