The deceased has been identified as Amari Justin Young, a resident of Opelika, aged 22. He was declared dead at 10:21 PM CT. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery is conducting a postmortem examination. A white sheet was observed covering a third-floor balcony at The Magnolia at Auburn, the site of the shooting.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed early Tuesday morning that the fatality was due to an officer-involved shooting involving the Auburn Police Department. The officer present during the incident did not sustain any injuries. Further information is anticipated from the SBI later on Tuesday. As of Tuesday morning, the Auburn Police Department has not issued a public statement.
The shooting occurred at approximately 10:00 PM on Monday, September 2nd. An anonymous resident reported hearing a loud knocking followed by the arrival of police at the scene.
