Darean Davis Obituary, Death; – The 14-year-old victim who succumbed to his injuries following a shooting at the Michigan State Fair over the weekend has been identified as Darean Davis from Detroit.
This tragic incident marred what was otherwise a serene Labor Day weekend at the annual fair. The Novi Police Department is actively investigating the shooting and is in pursuit of the individual responsible for this crime. According to the department’s commander, this incident exemplifies a growing trend where conflicts between individuals escalate into violence rather than being resolved peacefully.
“It is regrettable that we are witnessing an increase in such occurrences,” stated Novi Police Cmdr. Jason Meier. “The traditional method of settling disputes through physical confrontation seems to have been replaced by gun violence.” Although the fair has concluded, two families from Detroit are left devastated by the events.
Reports indicate that two groups, primarily composed of teenagers, engaged in a confrontation at the fair on Saturday night. The situation escalated outside in a parking lot when an individual in their early twenties opened fire.
The shooter, who remains unidentified, fled the scene, leaving chaos in their wake. Footage from the evening captures the panic as crowds hurriedly evacuated the area. Darean Davis was a sophomore at University High School in Ferndale. Another 14-year-old friend was also injured in the incident but has since been discharged from the hospital.
“Our investigative teams are making significant strides, yet we have not yet identified a suspect,” Meier remarked. With numerous individuals capturing the events on their devices, police are optimistic that this video evidence will aid in apprehending the shooter.
“Tips from citizens and video footage taken by bystanders will be crucial. We have already received a substantial amount of information from those present, which has greatly assisted our investigation,” Meier added. To ensure safety during the final two days of the fair, additional Novi police officers were deployed to the event.
