Yeremi Colino Obituary, Death; – Authorities are actively pursuing three suspects in connection with a stabbing incident in Lower Manhattan that resulted in the death of one teenager and left another injured. Officers were dispatched to 17 John St. at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Thursday following reports of a stabbing.
According to police, prior to the incident, a verbal exchange occurred when one of the suspects inquired whether the teenagers spoke English. Upon receiving a negative response, the situation escalated dramatically. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered two teenage victims suffering from stab wounds.
A 17-year-old male, identified as Yeremi Colino, who resided at the Roosevelt Hotel, sustained a stab wound to the chest and was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The second victim, an 18-year-old male residing at the Stewart Hotel, was stabbed in the left arm with a screwdriver and was also taken to the same hospital, where he is anticipated to make a full recovery.
A student from Pace University, exiting the dining hall, inadvertently entered the crime scene shortly after the incident, observing a bloodied pair of pliers and a blood-stained sharp stick on the ground.
“There was a significant police presence coming down John Street from Broadway. It was quite chaotic, with officers instructing us to clear the area. I believe someone was attacked with either pliers or a wooden stick. The scene was very disorderly, with police pushing people aside to secure the area, and there was a considerable amount of blood, creating a large trail across various sections of John Street,” recounted student Mason Garrity.
The NYPD has confirmed that a knife was recovered from the scene. Authorities have described the three suspects they are seeking as men in their twenties with dark complexions. The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been made thus far. This incident marks the fourth homicide in the 1st Precinct this year, contrasting sharply with the absence of any homicides in the same precinct throughout all of 2023.
