Wesley S Finley Obituary, Death; – A tragic accident on Kelleys Island resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man from Kentucky after his vehicle overturned and entered Lake Erie during the early hours of Memorial Day, as confirmed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
According to OSHP, the incident occurred at 2 a.m. on May 26 on West Lakeshore Drive, to the west of Huntington Street. The driver has been identified by OSHP as Wesley S. Finley, a 24-year-old resident of East Bernstadt, Kentucky.
Finley was operating a 2000 Ford Mustang traveling westbound on West Lakeshore Drive when he veered off the left side of the roadway, as reported by OSHP. The Mustang subsequently collided with several metal fenceposts, a deck, and multiple rocks before it overturned, according to OSHP.
OSHP indicated that the vehicle ultimately came to a stop while partially submerged in Lake Erie. As a result of the crash, Finley lost his life, as stated by OSHP. OSHP confirmed that Finley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs were factors in this accident, as OSHP noted that the investigation is ongoing. No additional injuries were reported by OSHP. OSHP acknowledged the following departments that assisted at the scene:
