Wesley Robertson Obituary, Death;- A verbal disagreement regarding a food order at a Checkers restaurant in Florida escalated into a deadly shooting on Wednesday evening, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to a shooting incident at 5780 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway at approximately 10:10 p.m. in Kissimmee. Upon arrival, deputies found that the shooting involved a customer named Wesley Robertson and an employee identified as 23-year-old Elijah Travis Mackey.

Court documents indicate that surveillance footage from the Checkers establishment shows Mackey exiting through a drive-thru window and approaching the front of the restaurant where Robertson was located. A witness reported that Mackey and the customer began to argue. The documents further state that Robertson made a derogatory remark towards Mackey.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, at that point, Mackey drew a “small handgun” from his waistband and shot Robertson in the chest. Robertson was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Mackey was apprehended and booked into the Osceola County Jail, facing charges of first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm. Mackey made his initial court appearance on Friday afternoon following the shooting, where he was denied bail. Kim Francis, a spokesperson for Checkers, issued the following statement:

“We are shocked and saddened by the incident that took place last night at our restaurant in Kissimmee, Florida. The actions of this one employee do not represent the values of the thousands of our dedicated employees nationwide. We are cooperating fully with the police in their investigation, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to the family of the guest.”

On Friday, Checkers resumed normal operations. Numerous individuals and families were staying at nearby hotels for the holiday weekend and other local events. “It makes me feel insecure. It’s like, is this going to happen at my hotel? Who knows,” expressed Ray Blake.
