Wayne David Obituary, Death; – The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. has identified a suspect involved in a police pursuit during which a firearm was discarded into a storm drain, subsequently discharging and resulting in the death of an officer last week.
Authorities are seeking assistance from the public in locating 27-year-old Tyrell Lamonte Bailey, as stated in a news release issued on Tuesday. Bailey is currently wanted under an arrest warrant for the unlawful possession of a firearm.
On August 28, at approximately 5:40 p.m., members of the Violent Crime Suppression Division observed a suspicious vehicle in the 4500 block of Quarles Street NE, from which a man exited. Upon police approach, the individual, now recognized as Bailey, fled towards the southbound lanes of DC-295, discarding a firearm into a storm drain along the roadside.
Officer Wayne David, who was attempting to recover the weapon, was struck by a bullet when it discharged. He sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body and was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Bailey is described as standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds, with tattoos visible on both arms. Authorities have raised the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case to a total of $60,000.
