Victoria Truss Obituary, Death; – A 34-year-old resident of Shorewood has been named as the individual suspected of shooting three people, resulting in one fatality and injuring a police officer, before being killed by law enforcement after a chase.
Michael Griffin Jr. was identified as the suspect in a statement released on Monday, July 7, by the Wauwatosa Police Department on behalf of the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team (MAIT).
According to police, Griffin opened fire on officers who were responding to a shooting report on July 3 near the intersection of Bartlett and Kenmore, shortly before 3 a.m. The gunfire hit a police vehicle and struck a Shorewood officer in the vest, though the officer sustained no serious injuries.
A deceased individual was discovered in the residence, identified by family members as Victoria Truss, the eldest of three siblings and a mother to a 14-year-old son.
Another individual was injured in the shooting but survived, as reported by the police. Authorities state that Griffin was subsequently fatally shot by police in Milwaukee following a pursuit and exchange of gunfire. No officers were harmed during this incident, as noted in the release.
The officers involved in the shooting — one each from the Glendale Police Department, Milwaukee Police Department, and FBI — have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with the policies of their respective agencies.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed the officer-involved shooting to reach out to the Oak Creek Police Department, which is conducting the investigation into the fatal incident alongside MAIT.
