Tyree Winslow Obituary, Death; – A man who was fatally shot during an encounter with Howard County Police on November 30 has been identified as 29-year-old Tyree Winslow from College Park, according to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General. The officers involved in the incident are Christopher Weir, who has served in the department for 14 years, and Joseph Debronzo, a veteran of 15 years, as reported by the state agency.
The Independent Investigations Division of the attorney general’s office, responsible for reviewing all police-related fatalities, is currently conducting an investigation. A representative from the AG’s office stated that there were no further updates available as of Wednesday afternoon and directed inquiries to Howard County Police. A representative from the Howard County Police Department confirmed that Weir and Debronzo have been placed on standard administrative leave following the incident.
Shortly after 3 p.m. on November 30, police responded to a reported domestic disturbance in the 10000 block of American Pharoah Lane in Laurel. According to the preliminary investigation, the man discharged several rounds from a shotgun at the front door and subsequently entered the residence through a window, as stated by the attorney general’s office.
Officers discovered a woman on the “outside upper ledge” of the house and observed Winslow in the window holding a firearm. The preliminary investigation indicated that Winslow did not follow police orders to drop his weapon, leading to an exchange of gunfire between him and the officers.
After establishing a barricade, police were unable to communicate with Winslow and subsequently entered the home, where they found him deceased at the scene. The attorney general’s office reported that a knife and several firearms were located near Winslow. Howard County Police confirmed that three other individuals in the home were evacuated without injury.
Authorities noted that the medical examiner has yet to determine the manner of death, leaving it unclear whether Winslow succumbed to a self-inflicted injury or was struck by police gunfire. However, the attorney general’s office did confirm that he sustained multiple apparent gunshot wounds.
