Travis Sentell Russell Obituary, Death; – Authorities have disclosed the identity of a man who was fatally shot in broad daylight in southwest Birmingham over the weekend.
On Tuesday, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim’s name as Travis Sentell Russell. At 42 years old, he resided in Dadeville.
West Precinct officers were called to the scene around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, specifically to the 700 block of McMillon Avenue.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald reported that upon their arrival, they discovered the victim bleeding on the ground behind an SUV located in a driveway.
Russell was swiftly transported to UAB Hospital, where he was declared dead at 1:31 p.m.
Fitzgerald noted that the initial investigation suggests the shooting occurred close to the location where the victim was found. Authorities believe he was attempting to seek assistance when he collapsed.
As of now, no arrests have been made.
Russell marks the 60th homicide in Birmingham this year and is one of two incidents that took place in the city over the weekend.
On Friday night, shortly before 10 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot and killed during a dispute at a house party in Inglenook. A suspect has been apprehended in connection with that incident.
Throughout Jefferson County, there have been a total of 92 homicides, which includes the 60 recorded in Birmingham.
