Tony James Ferguson Obituary, Death; – New information has emerged regarding a homicide that occurred over the weekend. The McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office has disclosed that an altercation resulted in one man being fatally shot.
As reported, on Sunday, December 16th, 2024, at 1:48 AM, deputies were dispatched to a shooting incident near Highway 99 and Swamp Road. Upon their arrival, they encountered a large crowd, with some individuals still engaged in physical confrontations. Deputies located a victim of gunfire and collaborated with McIntosh County Emergency Medical Services to administer life-saving efforts.
Regrettably, despite these efforts, the victim did not survive and passed away while receiving treatment at the Southeast Georgia Medical Center in Brunswick. The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Tony James Ferguson, a resident of the McIntosh County area.
The Criminal Investigations Division of the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to initiate an investigation. Witness accounts indicate that the shooting arose from a dispute among attendees at a party, which was not sanctioned under the McIntosh County Special Event Ordinance. This ordinance was established to ensure that large gatherings are adequately supported by emergency services to maintain safety.
The McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office stated, “This tragic loss of life should have been avoided. There is no justification for an argument to escalate to the point of gunfire. Our Sheriff’s Office urges the community to unite in seeking justice for Mr. Ferguson’s family. Such senseless violence must not be tolerated by the residents of McIntosh County.”
Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the individual(s) responsible for Ferguson’s death. They encourage witnesses to this unfortunate incident to come forward to provide closure for the Ferguson family.
