Todd Pearson Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was struck and killed by a train in north Lincoln early Monday morning.

Officials reported that 62-year-old Todd Pearson from Lincoln is the second individual to lose their life due to a train incident in Lincoln within a week. This follows an incident last Thursday when a train collided with a pedestrian near Northwest 84th and West O streets.

Emergency responders and law enforcement arrived shortly after 12:30 a.m. to the scene where an Amtrak train had hit a bicyclist at the railroad crossing close to the intersection of 33rd Street and Cornhusker Highway.

Amtrak confirmed that the train involved, Amtrak Train 5, was carrying 246 passengers and crew members and was en route from Chicago to the San Francisco Bay at the time of the accident.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Pearson’s body in a ditch located west of the crossing and south of the tracks. His bicycle was located on the rocks, just south of the tracks.

Through interviews with witnesses, police established that Pearson was biking south through the crossing when the train struck him. Investigators were informed that the railroad crossing arms were lowered, the lights were flashing, and the train had sounded its horn.

The intersection was closed for several hours but has since been reopened. Train 5 resumed its journey westward after a delay exceeding three hours.

An autopsy is currently being performed, which may yield further information.
