Taylor Cotton Obituary, Death; – The coroner has confirmed the identity of the individual who was fatally shot on Saturday in Dayton. According to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, Taylor Cotton, aged 26, succumbed to his injuries at approximately 9:37 a.m. on October 19 at Miami Valley Hospital. Dayton Police responded to a mental health call on Rosedale Drive around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Following attempts to engage with the man, who was reported by family members to have mental health challenges, he allegedly aimed a firearm at the officers, prompting them to discharge their weapons. Authorities have indicated that the firearm in question was not loaded. Dayton Police noted that this incident was not their first interaction with him, as they had previously transported him to the hospital for mental health evaluations on multiple occasions.
“This situation is more indicative of a mental health concern rather than a criminal matter, and we approached it accordingly,” stated Dayton Police Major Paul Saunders. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is currently looking into the shooting involving Dayton officers.
