Tariq Reynolds Obituary, – The Des Moines Police Department has confirmed the identity of the individual fatally shot on Sunday as 21-year-old Tariq Reynolds.
Nineteen-year-old Martavius Lamon Green has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Reynolds’ death, which occurred in a neighborhood on the south side, according to a police news release.
The release detailed that Green was visiting a residence located at 3400 S. Union St. when an argument ensued. “The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, prompting the 21-year-old victim to intervene,” the release stated.
Green, who hails from Atlanta, Georgia, reportedly left the premises, returned, and allegedly shot Reynolds twice in the upper torso with a 9mm firearm, as outlined in court documents.
Officers discovered a firearm near Green when he attempted to evade law enforcement, according to the court filings. Green purportedly confessed that it was the weapon used in the shooting of Reynolds.
Police received notification of the shooting at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Sunday. Reynolds was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Records from the Polk County Jail indicate that Green is currently being held without bond. This incident marks the eighth homicide in Des Moines for the year 2024.
