Tara Huerta,Kenneth Hedgecock Arrested;- Two people have been arrested after a toddler died from fentanyl toxicity earlier this year. The Leavenworth Police Department arrested 40-year-old Tara Huerta on Friday. The Kansas City Police Department arrested Kenneth Hedgecock, 34, days later.
Their arrests came after a 3-year-old was found unresponsive in an apartment in March. Paramedics brought the child to a hospital, but the child did not survive. On May 29, an autopsy report confirmed the toddler died of acute fentanyl toxicity.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation confirmed that methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl were all present in the apartment. Huerta is charged with first-degree murder, possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She is booked in the Leavenworth County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Hedgecock is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated endangering a child, unlawful possession of controlled substance and unlawful possession of certain drug precursors and drug paraphernalia.
He is being held in the Clay County Jail.
