Steve Clatterbuck,James Vincent Obituary, Death; – Three individuals lost their lives – and their remains have been retrieved – following a small aircraft crash in the ocean off the central California coastline, as reported by authorities and local media.
Emergency response teams arrived late Saturday after receiving notifications of a plane down approximately 300 yards (275 meters) from Point Pinos in Monterey County, according to a statement from the US Coast Guard on Sunday.
The Coast Guard subsequently informed California’s KSBW news outlet that they had recovered the bodies of three local residents who were aboard the ill-fated aircraft. The deceased were identified as Steve Clatterbuck, 60, from Salinas; James Vincent, 36, from Monterey; and Jamie Tabscott, 44, also from Monterey.
Witnesses indicated that they heard the sound of an aircraft engine revving followed by a splash in the water, as reported by KSBW. Individuals on the shore noted seeing debris from the crashed plane wash ashore.
Clatterbuck, Vincent, and Tabscott were all passengers on the twin-engine Beech 95-B55 Baron, which departed from San Carlos Airport at 10:11 PM local time and was last tracked at 10:37 PM near Monterey, based on flight tracking data from FlightAware.com.
Coast Guard boats and helicopter crews were deployed to search for the crash victims, with support from local law enforcement and fire departments.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation.
