Stefan Mendes-Monteiro Obituary, Death; – A man who lost his life in a car accident early Monday morning at a rest area on Interstate 495 has been identified as 33-year-old Stefan Mendes-Monteiro from Haverhill.
On Tuesday morning, Michael Keefe-Feldman, the chief of communications for Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker, confirmed that Mendes-Monteiro was the driver and only occupant of a Toyota RAV4.
According to an initial investigation released by Tucker’s office, Mendes-Monteiro was traveling northbound on I-495 in Haverhill at a high rate of speed shortly before 3 a.m. when his vehicle entered the rest area and collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer.
The Massachusetts State Police, along with the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, are conducting an investigation into the incident.
