Sheryl D Matthews Obituary, Death; – On November 21, a woman was formally charged with several offenses related to an OVI incident in Jefferson Township that resulted in the death of a 62-year-old woman from Butler County.
Tiffany Danielle Pierce, 34, from Moraine, faces one count of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of operating a vehicle while impaired, as reported by a Montgomery County grand jury. The OVI charges are classified as first-degree misdemeanors.
An arraignment is scheduled for her on Tuesday. The charges arise from a head-on collision that occurred on August 25 on state Route 4, which claimed the life of Sheryl D. Matthews from Somerville.
According to a crash report from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Pierce was operating a 2014 Mercedes Benz CLA in a northeast direction on state Route 4 when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road. After returning to the roadway, the car crossed the center line and collided with a 2012 Cadillac SRX before veering off the right side again.
Matthews attempted to avoid the Mercedes, but the front left corners of both vehicles struck each other, resulting in significant damage to both. The crash report indicated that Matthews was not wearing a seat belt at the time. She was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by medics, where she was later pronounced dead.
An investigation revealed that Pierce was under the influence of drugs during the incident, according to records from the Montgomery County Municipal Court Western Division. In October, she was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in municipal court prior to her indictment. Pierce was apprehended by deputies on November 11 and subsequently booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
