Sherry Clark Obituary, Death; – A grandmother who failed to report to work one day was discovered deceased, bound and gagged, by a man who had been released from prison just a week prior, according to authorities.
On November 10, law enforcement conducted a welfare check at the residence of 57-year-old Sherry Clark after her father expressed concern over her absence from work, as stated by Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum during a news conference aired by WTVY. Upon entering Clark’s home, investigators found her lifeless in her bedroom, exhibiting “severe trauma” to her head and neck. Utilizing “digital evidence,” authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old James Albert Johnson Jr., who had been temporarily residing with relatives next door to Clark, as reported by the sheriff.
Johnson had been released from a Florida prison on November 3 after serving four years for a burglary of an unoccupied dwelling charge in 2020, according to records from the Department of Corrections. He has now been charged with murder, as confirmed by the Alabama sheriff. “Sherry was a kind, loving mother, sister, daughter, and grandmother who cherished her family deeply,” stated Shelly Linderman from the Wiregrass Angel House on behalf of the family. An autopsy is forthcoming, and deputies have refrained from disclosing a potential motive.
“By all accounts, Sherry Clark was a diligent worker who returned home each day and kept to herself, not bothering anyone,” Bynum remarked. She was employed at Avis Car Rental at a nearby airport in Dothan, as indicated by authorities. Dale County is located approximately 85 miles southeast of Montgomery.
