Shelly Smit Obituary, Death; – The Rock Valley Fire Department responded to a house fire around 6 a.m. Monday, May 19, that resulted in one fatality. When crews arrived at 2096 340th Street, which is several miles southwest of Rock Valley, the entire house was in flames.
According to a press release, a woman identified as 61-year-old Shelly Smit was found in the basement. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The homeowner, 67-year-old Mike Smit, was injured and sent to Hegg Health Center for treatment.
