Shawn Oveisi Obituary, Death; – Austin authorities have apprehended a man suspected of being involved in a fatal collision that resulted in the death of a bicyclist on May 6 in North Austin, according to officials. Agustin Guillen faces charges for a collision resulting in death, classified as a second-degree felony that carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison, as stated in a police news release issued on Thursday. The deceased bicyclist was identified as 47-year-old Shawn Oveisi.
Law enforcement received a call at 11:38 p.m. on May 6 regarding the collision occurring in the northbound lanes of the 2900 block of Mopac North, as mentioned in the release. This location is situated just south of U.S. 183. Upon their arrival, officers discovered that the driver of the vehicle, later recognized as Guillen, had fled the scene, according to the report. Oveisi was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on May 19.
Guillen was taken into custody on June 11. The police did not disclose the specifics of how they located Guillen.
