Shaquille Green Arrested; – The sister of Naz Reid, a fan favorite of the Minnesota Timberwolves, has passed away.
On September 6, police officers responded to a 911 call and discovered Toraya Reid fatally shot at an apartment complex in Jackson Township, New Jersey. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has charged 29-year-old Shaquille Green, a resident of Jackson Township, with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Upon their arrival at the Paragon Apartment Complex, NBC Philadelphia reported that officers found Toraya Reid’s body after she had been shot multiple times near the complex’s exit.
Officers apprehended Green as he attempted to flee the crime scene. Green was taken to the Jackson Township Police Headquarters and is currently detained at Ocean County Jail.
According to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, “A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit identified Green—who had been in a dating relationship with Ms. Reid—as the individual responsible for her death.”
NBC Philadelphia reported that Toraya Reid, a resident of Jackson Township, had been with Naz Reid at a youth basketball camp less than two weeks prior at Hoop Group headquarters in Neptune.
“She was in the building, smiling on the sideline, helping out. And then, you know, a week later, you just hear about this. And it’s just sadness,” said James Cooper from Hoop Group to the media outlet. “I just have nothing but pain for the family and what they’re going through right now.”
Naz Reid was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and attended Roselle Catholic in Union County. He played for a year at Louisiana State University before declaring for the NBA Draft in 2019.
Although he was not selected by any team, he signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he received the Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2024.
