George Stokes, a truck driver, recounted to the Tri-City Record that he was waiting in traffic around 3:45 p.m. local time that day when he witnessed a car speeding past him before it collided with the couple’s vehicle.

According to KIRO-TV, the couple’s car was engulfed in flames as the truck driver approached the crash site.

Despite the efforts of the truck driver and others who attempted to assist, the couple succumbed to their injuries shortly thereafter at the scene, the outlet stated.

Serenne’s aunt, Brea Mikel, mentioned that her niece, also known as Dildanges, had been married to Casey for only 22 days before their untimely deaths, according to a GoFundMe campaign she initiated. Brea shared that her niece, who was driving at the time of the accident, had just celebrated her 23rd birthday on July 5.

“Dildanges was filled with excitement to embark on her new life in Texas with her husband, and that future was unjustly taken from them both,” Brea wrote in the description of the online fundraiser. Leola Melengoes, Serenne’s grandmother, informed KIRO-TV that her granddaughter was “happy” and “eager” about the upcoming move.

“The only solace we find in this tragedy is that Serenne and Casey were together. They had each other,” Brea also conveyed to the station. As of Wednesday, Aug. 6, nearly $6,000 has been collected through the GoFundMe campaign for Serenne’s family.

The family wishes for Serenne and Casey’s remains to be transported to Palau, according to KIRO-TV. The GoFundMe campaign aims to raise funds for this transportation, as well as for funeral costs. “Our family is still grappling with this heartbreaking loss,” Brea expressed.
