Scott Garvey Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified the individual who lost his life in an officer-involved shooting in Putney, along with the trooper responsible for the shooting.
According to Vermont state police, the trooper who discharged his service weapon is Peter Romeo, who has been serving with the state police since 2022. The deceased individual has been identified as Scott Garvey, 55, a resident of the Putney Landing apartment complex where the incident occurred.
Law enforcement remained on the scene for several hours on Monday. The Brattleboro Reformer reports that the situation began as a mental health crisis, involving a man who had barricaded himself inside one of the apartments. Neighbors reported instances of threatening behavior.
State police indicated that when they entered the apartment around 4:30 p.m., they believed they observed a firearm in Garvey’s hands. They stated that they opened fire after Garvey failed to comply with their commands.
Garvey sustained injuries to his torso and left lower leg.
