Saran Sun Arrested; – The Scarborough Police Department says it has identified the driver who was involved in a recent hit-and-run crash on U.S. Route 1 that killed a bicyclist.
Police said they first identified the vehicle involved in Friday’s crash on Tuesday, and they were then able to locate the vehicle shortly after 4:20 a.m. Wednesday and find out who was driving at the time of the crash.
Saran Sun, 68, has been charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving injury or death, which is a Class C felony.
Police said the crash happened at about 4:15 a.m. Friday, June 27, near the intersection of Route 1 and Southgate Road.
The bicyclist who was struck, 50-year-old Howard Gribbin, was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he died of his injuries.
Data from the Maine Department of Transportation indicates the crash was the state’s second fatal bicycle crash of the year.
Police said the section of Route 1 between Haigis Parkway and Payne Road was closed for about three hours while officers investigated the crash scene.
