Ryan Almeida,Raul Bohorquez Obituary, Death; – Three construction workers, including two from Brockton, tragically lost their lives on Friday, March 28, while they were engaged in repairing damaged guardrails on I-91 North in West Springfield, as reported by the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.
The driver involved in the incident, who fled the scene on foot, is now facing three counts of manslaughter and one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury and death, according to the DA’s office.
The victims have been identified as Igor Costa, 26, from Marlborough, Ryan Almeida, 48, from Brockton, and Raul Bohorquez, 57, also from Brockton.
“We are heartbroken by this sudden and tragic loss,” stated Almeida’s family on a GoFundMe page established for them. “Ryan was deeply cherished by many, and his passing is both tragic and unjust,” they expressed.
At approximately 12:50 a.m. on Friday, Costa, Almeida, and Bohorquez were working on a guardrail near the entrance of an exit ramp on I-91 in West Springfield when a northbound vehicle struck them, according to the DA’s office.
All three men unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Bilal Griffith, 29, from West Springfield, fled the scene, but was apprehended by Massachusetts State Police and West Springfield Police a few hours later.
Griffith was arraigned on Friday, March 28, in Springfield District Court and is currently being held on a cash bail of $1 million, as stated by the DA’s office. His next court appearance is set for April 2.
