Roy Lamar Curry Jr Obituary, Death; – A man sought in relation to the June 20 murder of a 42-year-old individual at a gas station in Tuscaloosa has been captured in Mississippi.
Tyshawn Laquan Thompson, aged 22, was arrested by police at approximately 10:30 p.m. on June 20 near Batesville, Mississippi, which is roughly 200 miles from the location of the deadly shooting, according to Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
Thompson faces murder charges associated with the shooting. He is currently being held in the Panola County jail in Mississippi while awaiting extradition proceedings.
At about 4:15 p.m., officers from the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at the Texaco gas station located at 4535 Skyland Blvd E.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Roy Lamar Curry Jr., who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, as stated by Kennedy.
Despite attempts to save his life, Curry did not survive.
Kennedy noted that Curry was employed at the gas station, where he worked alongside several other staff members cleaning vehicles. Witnesses reported that a former employee had entered the establishment, shot Curry, and subsequently stole a vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Investigators are currently working to determine the motive behind the shooting. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has been assigned to lead the investigation. Following their inquiries, Thompson was identified as a suspect.
A vehicle, believed to have been stolen from the Tuscaloosa gas station, was located and tracked by law enforcement cyber intelligence units, which found it traveling westward through Mississippi.
Local agents from the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force were mobilized and collaborated with partner agencies in Mississippi, receiving real-time intelligence from the cyber unit. The agents successfully narrowed down the search area and located Thompson near Batesville.
Thompson was apprehended, along with his vehicle and physical evidence that investigators suspect may be connected to the fatal shooting.
