Rosamond Brookins Obituary, Death; – A woman has lost her life, and a deputy has been placed on administrative leave following a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning in Tampa. As reported by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call regarding a potential burglary in progress.
Upon arrival at the location, deputies requested that anyone inside the residence exit. Initially, a roommate and a young child came out. Subsequently, deputies entered the home and rescued a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound to her hand.
Another team of deputies searched the residence to find the suspect, who was identified as the victim’s mother. The sheriff’s office indicated that deputies encountered a locked bedroom door within the home. They stated that multiple commands were issued to open the door, but these were disregarded.
Deputies forced entry through the door and found 46-year-old Rosamond Brookins lying on the floor with a firearm in her hand. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies issued several commands for the woman to lower the weapon, but she failed to comply.
At one point, Deputy Joshua Thomas discharged his firearm. Brookins was declared dead at the scene. Deputy Thomas has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation, which is being conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
