Robert Warren Obituary, Death; – A 28-year-old inmate has been fatally attacked in his cell by another prisoner at the same facility, according to police reports.
The deceased inmate, Robert Warren, was serving his sentence at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead in his cell on Monday, as stated in a release from the Maryland State Police on Wednesday.
Authorities have identified a suspect, who is also an inmate, but have withheld his name pending charges. Police indicated that further details will be disclosed once the suspect is formally charged.
While Maryland authorities have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding Warren’s death or the estimated time of death prior to the discovery of his body, they confirmed that the Maryland State Police are actively investigating the incident involving the inmate’s death in Allegany County.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was alerted by the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit regarding the inmate’s death. An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has classified Warren’s death as a homicide.
Investigators from the State Police Homicide Unit are continuing their inquiry, with support from crime scene technicians and investigators from the DPSCS Internal Investigative Unit. Once the investigation is concluded, the findings will be submitted to the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office for consideration of potential charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
