The deceased have been identified as Robert Hurst, aged 69, from Chillicothe, Ohio, and Thomas Fowler, aged 53, from Zanesville, Ohio, both of whom succumbed to drowning on Sunday.
Officials reported that they were alerted to the main beach at 3 p.m. on Sunday after receiving information about a kayaker who had entered the water. Upon arrival, it was determined that two men had abandoned their boats and were in the water. According to officials, one kayaker entered the water, prompting another kayaker to attempt a rescue. Later that evening, sonar equipment was employed to locate both bodies.
