Robert Harrison Obituary, Death; – A deadly shooting in Madison County is under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation after an armed man was shot and killed during a confrontation with a deputy in Jackson.

The Bureau shared Tuesday that at the request of District Attorney General Jody Pickens, 26th Judicial District, special agents are investigating the Dec. 16 shooting.

Deputies responded to a disturbance report of an armed man acting violently at the 300 block of Fern Drive in Jackson on Monday, according to TBI. TBI identified the individual as Robert Harrison. Deputies heard a gunshot upon arrival and came in contact with Harrison, who allegedly did not comply with verbal commands to drop his weapon.

During the encounter, a deputy fired his weapon at Harrison who was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to TBI. The responding deputies were not injured, and TBI is investigating the reasons behind why the deputy fired his weapon.

TBI does not identify individuals under investigation and leaves it to the agencies’ discretion. On Wednesday, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy as Sgt. Sebastian Baker. MCSO noted that “per standard protocol,” Baker has been placed on administrative leave with pay as TBI continues its investigation.
The shift patrol sergeant has served 10 years in law enforcement

The sheriff’s office says no further details will be disclosed until the investigation is complete.
