Riley Smith Obituary, Death; – A young motorcyclist tragically lost his life on Monday evening following a collision with a vehicle at the intersection of 340 South and Woodland Hills Drive, near Valley View Middle School, as reported by Salem police.

The motorcyclist has been identified by family members as 17-year-old Riley Smith. Following the incident, he was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital via medical helicopter, according to police reports.

Family members stated that he underwent a lengthy 10-hour surgery that night, with additional procedures planned for the following day. Unfortunately, they noted that “Riley’s body just could not keep up with the extensive injuries and he passed away” on Tuesday night.

The family expressed their profound grief, stating, “Riley’s parents, Chris and Brandy Smith, along with their other son, Hunter, who was Riley’s best friend, are completely devastated. They would like to extend their gratitude to all first responders and the community for their efforts to save Riley’s life,” as conveyed by a family representative.

The Smith family also shared that Riley was a survivor of childhood cancer and had previously undergone a kidney removal to treat a tumor. Authorities have indicated that the investigation into the accident is ongoing. Additionally, a GoFundMe account has been established to assist the family with medical expenses.
