Rick Alsept Obituary, Death; – A retired Navy veteran was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident while walking his dog in Missouri, according to his family. The 62-year-old man, identified as Rick Alsept, was discovered deceased in the roadway following the incident that occurred on October 12 in Florissant, a suburb of St. Louis, as reported by the Florissant Police Department. Authorities also noted that his dog was found dead in close proximity.
Surveillance footage from a neighbor captured the moment Alsept was struck, with reports indicating he was thrown at least 50 feet before the driver fled the scene, as stated by KTVI. Police determined that Alsept was hit by 29-year-old Alonzo Johnson, who has since been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
“That’s a human being, that’s a living soul, so for someone to not even stop to see what’s going on, it’s very hurtful,” remarked Karin Anthony, whose footage recorded the tragic event, in an interview with KSDK. Neighbors noted that Alsept frequently walked his dog in a stroller around the neighborhood, and his niece described the dog as “the center of his universe” on Facebook.
Alsept was a father of three and had “settled into a quiet retirement,” as stated by his son, Derick Alsept, on Facebook. After serving over 20 years in the Navy, he relocated from Ohio to Missouri. “Anyone who spoke to him could tell you that he had two great loves in his life—the Navy and his children,” Derrick Alsept shared in his post. Police reported that Johnson is currently being held on a $50,000 bond, with the possibility of additional charges pending, according to investigators.
