Rayvon Shahid Obituary, Death; – The Michigan State Police (MSP) has finalized its investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in Flint and has forwarded the findings to the Michigan Department of Attorney General (AG) for evaluation.
On November 2, MSP reported that troopers from the Flint Post were conducting patrols in the vicinity of Essex Street and Pasadena Avenue when they encountered an armed individual, identified as 17-year-old Rayvon Shahid, who fled the scene and was subsequently shot and killed.
Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP, remarked, “The loss of life in any police encounter is a tragedy. Every incident involving a state police officer discharging their weapon is subject to immediate and comprehensive investigation, and this case is no different. I have previously engaged with community leaders in Flint and spoken with Rayvon’s mother to reaffirm our dedication to a thorough and unbiased investigation, which has now been concluded.”
MSP indicated that the investigative report, along with video evidence and all pertinent materials related to the shooting, was submitted to the AG’s office for review on Wednesday, November 20.
The officers involved in the incident remain on administrative leave, as stated by MSP, which noted that the Michigan State Police Troopers Association contract restricts the disclosure of an officer’s identity unless criminal charges are filed against them. MSP is fully cooperating with the AG’s office during the review process.
